Quick Facts about Speeding Tickets in Ontario

Speeding is an absolute liability offence, meaning the prosecution only needs to prove you exceeded the posted speed limit. Once you go over the posted limit, you have breached Sections 128 or 172 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Did you know that only a bus is required to have a working speedometer? No other motor vehicle is “required” to have one, so an excuse like, “Officer, my speedometer is broken!” is out the window.

Contrary to common belief, demerit points aren’t lost when you are convicted of speeding, they are accumulated. Everyone starts out at 0 demerits. For what ever reason here in Canada people say "How many points do I lose" when in fact you're "accumulating them"
