Speeding Penalties: 

• 0-15 km/hr over the limit: fine but no demerit points
• 16-29 km/hr over the limit: fine + 3 demerit points
• 30-49 km/hr over the limit: fine + 4 demerit points (G1,G2,M1& M2 is a 30 day novice driver suspension upon conviction)
• 50 km/hr over the limit and higher: Arrested for Stunt and or Speeding and or Careless Driving to name a few. Minimum $2,000 fine + 6 demerit points (G1,G2,M1& M2 is a 30 day novice driver suspension upon conviction, plus court ordered penalties) 

Additional Penalties for a 50 km/hr or Higher Ticket

If you get charged at 50+ km/hr over the limit, the following penalties ensue:

• You're issued a Summons to appear in court. If you fail to appear in court a warrant for your arrest can be issued
• Automatic 7 day vehicle impoundment
• Automatic 7 day drivers licence suspension
• Minimum fine of $2,000 up to $10,000 
• Up to 6 months in jail, with or without the above fine
• Drivers licence suspension for a 1st conviction up to 2 years 
• Drivers licence suspension for a 2nd conviction not more than 10 years
• Massive insurance increases IF you can even get insurance

Contrary to common belief, demerit points aren’t "lost" when you are convicted of speeding, they are "accumulated". Everyone starts out at 0 demerits. For what ever reason here in Canada people say "How many points do I lose" when in fact you're "accumulating them"
